FREE LENTEN MOTET: Exaltabo Te, Domine

Today marks the release of a new SATB motet by James J. Richardson: Exaltabo Te, Domine. Released to the Creative Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0), this motet may be freely shared/copied/performed (commercial rights are reserved). This piece was written to be easy to learn for even modest choirs, and is conceived in a Renaissance style, reminiscent of the chanted verses from Allegri’s famous Miserere Mei.

A suite of comprehensive practice tracks is available on YouTube, which will permit choir directors to send out links to choir members so they can learn with ease. While this arrangement could be sung throughout all of Lent, it is particularly suitable for Ash Wednesday during the offertory (or perhaps even during the distribution of ashes).

We kindly ask that do us the favor of sharing this with colleagues and choir directors, and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel which has over 800 practice tracks of sacred works, including over 200 practice tracks of Fr. Weber’s english propers.

Last, but by no means least, please take a moment to check out our extensive catalogue of psalmody—most of which is rendered in a modern, approachable style, but with melodies distilled from ancient chants!

UPDATE: Per the request of a colleague,
there is now an
all-Latin version on page 2.

UPDATE 2: at the behest and encouragement of a second colleague,
there is now an
all-Spanish version.
