Now Hiring! (Goshen, IN)
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen, IN, is currently seeking an Associate Director of Sacred Music to aid in the development of its sacred music program. St. John’s is seeking a bilingual (English / Spanish) candidate who can work full-time (salaried) with the Parish’s Hispanic musicians, in an effort to implement conciliar liturgical norms, with an emphasis on developing vocal technique and shifting musical culture to be more in line with traditional liturgical music. Liturgical goals include (but are not limited to):
the implementation of regular use of the organ (which is to receive “pride of place”)
regular exosure to Gregorian chant (Latin & Vernacular Translations), particularly for feasts and solemnities
more unified musical expression between various Mass times in Spanish (with increasing rapprochement to the music used at Masses in English)
While strong keyboard skills are preferred, previous organ-specific experience is not necessary. Successful candidates who do not have prior organ experience would preferably be willing to study the instrument under the guidance of the DoSM (with the DoSM or another instructor), with the intention of achieving competence sufficient for liturgical playing.
