The one who does justice…
…will live in the presence of the Lord.
Amen. May it be so! Lord, give me the grace to do justice in the world in which you have placed me.
This week’s psalm is a wonderful lesson about how we have to not simply believe, but do. This is reinforced wonderfully by St. James’ epistle when he says:
Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
And thus, Ladies & Gentlemen, Luther’s argument of “faith alone” is destroyed in one stroke of the quill.
This week’s psalm setting is not based on a pre-existing chant, but is rather a more modern, metrical refrain, not unlike the various collections of psalms that are commonly heard in churches today. I hope you enjoy!
