5th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A • 2026)
Greetings All—
I’m sorry that I couldn’t get our ordo out in time for normal choir rehearsal time. I had some significant computer troubles today. Nevertheless, here it is, and better late than never!
This week will be a fun week of good “warhorse” hymns. Two melodies will either be new or less familiar, and I will be sure to point those out below. (But they are Oooooh so lovely! — we only have two more weeks to sneak in some fun ones before Lent starts!)
Entrance Hymn: Entrance Antiphon Trope to the tune ITALIAN HYMN (a.k.a. “Come Thou, Almighty King”)
Entrance Antiphon: (See below)
Psalm: 112, The just man is a light in darkness to the upright. (Video; mp3 below)
Gospel Acclamation: Festal Alleluia (II) (Playlist)
Offertory Antiphon: “Keep my footsteps firmly in Your paths…” (see below)
Offertory Hymn: O Breath of Life come Sweeping Through Us to the tune ST. CLEMENT (a.k.a. The Day Thou, Gavèst Lord, is Ended)
Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber #1059 (see below)
*NB: we will sing from printed handouts which feature rhythmic modifications from the original to help it flow better. V3 Men, V4 WomenChoral Anthem: Cantate Domino by Pitoni (Link to CMAA practice tracks)
Communion Hymn: Praise My Soul the King of Heaven to the tune LAUDA ANIMA
Recessional Hymn: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling to the tune BLÆNWERN.
Psalm & Alleluia:
Offertory Hymn (NEW!)
The first video is it’s original context, although we are singing an alternate text:
And here is an organ-only version which might be a little easier to learn from:
Our text:
Communion Antiphon:
NB: the rhythms displayed in this image have been slightly altered from their original form to suit a more pleasing interpretation.
Communion Motet:
I’m going to reproduce the CMAA practice tracks for Cantate Domino by Pitoni here. The source documents are all found here.
Below is a nice rendition, although we will sing it through twice.
Communion Hymn:
Recessional Hymn: (NEW!…ish)
(We’ve done this before, but it’s been a minute.)
Lenten Lookahead:
The Lotti Miserere track (above) is organ-only, but there are time stamps to hear your part at a louder volume. I intend to make a proper PT of this, time permitting.
