Easter V (A • 2023)

Hello Friends,
Here is our ordo for Easter V:

  1. Entrance Hymn: Sing to the Lord a New Song (Trope of the entrance antiphon text) to the tune DIADEMATA (a.k.a. “Crown Him with Many Crowns”)

  2. Entrance Antiphon: Fr. Weber #799

  3. Psalm 33: “Lord, let Your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in You.”

(I’m sorry the PT is melody-only this week, but it is still easy to sing along with your individual voice part.)

  4. Eastertide Alleluia

  5. Offertory Hymn: Thou At the Way, the Truth, the Life to the tune DETROIT

  6. Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber #812

  7. Communion Special: Cantate Domino by Fr. Lindusky

  8. Communion Hymn: Lord, Enthroned in Heavenly Splendor to the tune LAUDA ANIMA (a.k.a. “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”)

  9. (Regina Cæli)

  10. Recessional Hymn: O Glorious St. Michæl (trope of the St. Michæl the Archangel prayer) to the tune ELLACOMBE (a.k.a. I Sing the Mighty Power of God)

Here are some organ-only practice tracks for the setting of Cantate Domino by Fr. Lindusky. The grey tracks are modern pitch. The black boxed, individual voice parts I generated back in 2019, so they are pitched higher than we are currently singing the piece, but they are still useful for getting the general contour and pitch relationships of your part into your ear.

As a little treat, I’m also including a restored copy of the original reel-to-reel recording of the St. John’s singers. There is a whole album full of wonderful performances like this… They were truly some amazing musicians, and the recordings (and old music filing cabinets) bear that out!
