31st Sunday in OT

Musical ordo for the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen IN. (2021)

  • Ordinary: Mass in Honor of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, by Michæl Olbash

  • Entrance Antiphon Hymn: Lord, my God forsake me not Tune: Beach Spring

  • Entrance Antiphon: Simple English Propers

  • Psalm 18 — “I love You, Lord, my strength.”
I’ve based this arrangement on the ancient chant, Diligam te, Domine. Make sure you give this a once over before Sunday.

  • Alleluia IV (Yes, I have a new printed version with the next three week’s worth of verses for you.)

  • Offertory Antiphon: Bless the Lord, O my soul (Benedic, anima mea) — in the worship aid.

  • Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber 1656 — (Mark your diaries… option iii; this is a formula and very easy; I’m not making a recording of it.)

Communion Hymn: Anima Christi by Marco Frisina

  • Recessional Hymn: Salve Regina

See you 10:20 in the Youth Room.

30th Sunday in OT

Musical ordo for the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen IN. (2021)

  • Ordinary: Mass in Honor of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, by Michæl Olbash

  • Entrance Antiphon Hymn: Now Let Those Hearts Rejoice Tune: Nun Danket (“Now thank we, all our God.”) If you’d like to hear how Bach intended it to be sung, watch this. He composed cantatas like this every single week for years. It’s mind-boggling. He would write the music on Monday & Tuesday, it would be copied out hastily after that, and then the choir and orchestra would have 2-3 days to rehearse it before Sunday. Can you even imagine? (Seriously; go back and listen to the first movement in that recording.)

  • Entrance Antiphon: Fr. Weber 1614
NB: we will sing verse 1 which is not common for our introits; men will sing the first half up to the asterisk and women will respond with the second half before we repeat the antiphon again.

  • Psalm 126 — “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.”
I’ve based this arrangement on the melody chanted by the Psalterium Currens schola.

  • Alleluia IV

  • Offertory Antiphon Hymn: O grant me life in accord with Thy word. Tune: SLANE (“Be Thou my vision”)

  • Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber 1629 — Just like the entrance antiphon, we will split the verses at the asterisk, with men leading the first half and women responding the second half. (with a nice lift in between!) We will also pair verses 1&2, and 3&4 together to economize our time.

Communion Motet: O Salutaris Hostia by Anerio

  • Communion Hymn: In Your True Presence Here Tune: TRENTHAM

  • Recessional Hymn: Maria! Maria!

See you 10:20 in the Youth Room.

28th Sunday in OT

Musical ordo for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen IN. (2021)

  • Ordinary: Mass in Honor of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, by Michæl Olbash

  • Entrance Hymn: If You Should Mark Iniquities. Tune: Third Mode Melody (Handout)

  • Entrance Antiphon: Fr. Weber 1570

  • Psalm 90 — Remember: we will have everyone sing melody only. I have reprinted this for you so that it is easier to read as well. (NB: if you study the lower half of the thumbnail image below, you’ll see it says, “repliti sumus…” followed by the descending neumes right in the middle below the play button. That is the line of music I referenced to derive the verse melody. It is a Portuguese Cistercian manuscript dating to approximately the year 1200.)

  • Alleluia IV — Each voice part’s audio track is below, as well as the usual YouTube video with the animate score.

  • Offertory Hymn: Remember me, O Lord. Tune: Trentham

  • Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber 1583

  • Communion Hymn: The King of Love My Shepherd Is

  • No communion motet today.

  • Recessional Hymn: Holy Michæl, Great Archangel. Tune: Lauda Anima

Lastly: So begins the month of October, if you can come a smidge early, we will briefly refresh our memory about the chants IN THE LOFT at 10:15. We have been asked to lead the rosary this Sunday, so we won’t have our usual time.

See you Sunday morning at 10:15 in the loft if you can swing it!
