Free Score: Psalm 144

Here I offer to you, dear reader, a free copy of my setting of Psalm 144, “Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!” The melody of this arrangement is taken from an Antiphonarium Benedictum dated to the year 1400AD. (You can view the original page here.)

The refrain treats “Benedictus dominus” and the verses set “deus meus” (twice).

This particular source antiphon happens to be simple, rather than florid, which renders this arrangement a great entry point for congregations (or school children) who might find some of James’s more florid arrangements too difficult to sing. Even though it is a simple arrangement, you can take joy in the fact that the refrain is a revival of an authentic, ancient chant!

If you like this and other similar, chant-based psalm arrangements, please be sure to let us know!
