Psalms for Confirmations

Confirmation season is upon us, and there are few offerings that we would like to highlight for your consideration:

1.

The first is a free setting of Psalm 117 “You will be my witnesses to all the world.” This option is frequently chosen because it is the shortest option given in the lectionary (make of that what you will) but that doesn’t mean that the musical setting has to be uninspiring. To that end, we are offering the following setting free-of-charge which is based on the Veni Creator Spiritus.

2.

The next option is Psalm 96, “Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations.” This setting is based on the Gregorian antiphon Annuntiate inter gentes which treats the same text as the refrain.

In both cases, comprehensive practice tracks are available (Psalm 117 is an all-inclusive video with timestamps whereas Psalm 96 features a playlist of separate tracks) to help your schola learn the psalms.

3.

We also have Psalm 22, “When the Holy Spirit comes to you, you will be My witnesses.” which is based on the Veni Sancte Spiritus. Here is a basic organ demo to get a preview:

4.

Lastly, we have Psalm 104, “Lord, send out Your Spirit and renew the face of the earth.” This version, while not chant based, has the added bonus of including two separate files, the first of which sets the verses for confirmations, while the second has the verses for the Easter Vigil, so you get a two-for-one! This is a choir favorite (especially at the Vigil).

A blessèd Eastertide to you all,
James
