Easter Vigil 2023
[Fr. Logan Sings: Bilingual Exultet]
Psalms:
*There is still some question as to whether or not my settings Psalms in Spanish will be used, or whether the Hispanic cantors will sing other editions. I’m including the links to my Spanish psalms here so those who are interested in attempting to sing the refrains may familiarize themselves with them.15: Protegeme, Dios Mio…
[Lit.: Protect me, O Lord, because I have placed my trust in You.]Exodus 15: Let us sing to the Lord…
(*see below for organ demo)29: Te alabare, Senor, eternamente.
[Lit.: I will praise You, Lord, for all eternity.]18: Tu tienes, Senor, palabras de vida eterna.
[Lord, you have the words of eternal life.]42: Like a deer that longs for running streams…
(*see below for organ demo)
Gloria: Misa San Vincente (with Organ, after long improvisation while the bells are rung)
Solemn Easter Vigil Alleluia
Sequence: Priest, all respond. Priest, all respond. Priest, all respond. Cantor sings verse, schola joins at “forever” and then ‘Alleluia’ is repeated one final time.Litany of Saints (in Latin, but according to the updated form)
After each baptism: Eastertide Alleluia (Refrain only)
(*see below for organ demos)Sanctus (Community Mass)
Agnus Dei from Dalitz’s Missa Tribus Vocibus
Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber #698 (it is the same Easter Morning)
Extra Music:
Cantate Domino by Pitoni
(Note how this performance is more subdued; if we get to sing this at communion [we are alternating with the Hispanic Choir] then I would like to sing it with some restraint, as demonstrated here.)Regina Caeli by Lotti (Organ demo with time stamps & Live Performance)
Good Friday 2023
[Entrance is silent]
Psalm 31: Father into Your hands, I commend my spirit.
Make sure you’re really comfortable with this one because we will be singing it a cappella!Lenten Gospel Acclamation (again, a cappella, the theme of this whole liturgy)
Sung Gospel: Turba Choruses (Full Playlist)

The Reproaches (simple setting, JJR after Lalemant Propers)

Communion Motet: Mulier, Mulier, ecce filius Tuus
Extra music as needed:

Holy Thursday 2023
*there are some holes in my practice track catalogue; I will try and cobble some additional things together in the next 2-3 days as I am able, and I will update all the holy week lists accordingly. I cannot promise a track for everything, however. Some tracks will only be embedded mp3’s.
Faithful Cross, Above All Others (Picardy, a.k.a “Let all mortal flesh keep silenec)

Communion Motet: Hoc Est Corpus Meum by Gauthier

Palm Sunday 2023
Hi Friends—
Here’s my (very late) ordo for you. I’m just going to list everything as links; this is faster and it’s easier to read, I think. Just click on whatever you need.
Simplified ‘Pueri Hebraeorum’ during procession
All Glory, Laud, and Honor
[no entrance antiphon]
NB: Kyrie comes immediately after All Glory, Laud, and Honor (it feels funny to transition this way)
Psalm 22, “My God, my God, why have You abandoned me?!”
Offertory Motet: My heart expected reproach and misery…
Communion Antiphon: “Father, if this cup cannot pass away…”(Simple English Propers) *in the worship aid
Communion Hymn: Ah, Holy Jesus (Herzliebster Jesu) NB: the harmonization we are singing is slightly different from this recording.
——
I will have your mega booklets for you in the morning. You can basically pull everything out of your folders and replace it with the packet I’m giving you. I have even included any propers we are singing for holy week.
You may want to have a sticky tab available to help keep your page whenever you close your binder.
See you in the morning!
Ash Wednesday 2023
Greetings all—
As a reminder, mass will be in English at 5:30pm. I know that this is an awkward time; just get there when you can, and we will do the best we can. I will be in the loft by 5pm to warmup with those who are able to come ahead of time.
I also hope to do some minimal prep for the following Sunday (Lent I) after Mass, in the youth room with those who can stick around a few extra minutes. As usual, this will be a very minimal affair.
Entrance Antiphon: Fr. Weber (transcription into modern notation)
NB: I’m including the old (not so nice) video from two years ago that has the modern-note notation as well as a nicer video that actually has the square notes and is a much better recording.
Psalm: 51 “Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.”
Gospel Acclamation: “Marvelous and great are Your works, O Lord!” This is new this year, and is based on the offertory chant for Lent IV, Oportet te, fili gaudere “You should rejoice, my son…” (which seems a rather fitting genesis, considering the text of the acclamation’s refrain). SATB video embedded below. Here’s a link to the playlist where each voice part has its own video.
Distribution of Ashes: Fr. Weber Antiphons (transcribed to modern notation)
(I will cantor the second one, so you can ignore it in the video. Also, I apologize for the quality which isn’t so great… this was when I was first getting started… and I didn’t revisit this in time to re-record it for this year.)
(Men sing odd / Women even verses.)
Distribution of Ashes Special: Miserere Mei by Lotti if we have critical mass. (no pun intended)
Offertory Hymn: Lord Who Throughout These Forty Days
Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber #357
Communion Motet: Exaltabo Te
* To be able to sing this well, you will all need to practice it from home at least once.I am working on generating new PT’s for this piece which have all the notes in the proper octaves via a special service which does this with AI. I’ll post them here once I have them.
Communion Hymn: Parce Domine
We will be singing Mass XVIII (what we sing at daily Mass), but I have the scores in the worship aid and you should know it by heart anyway. Previewed below is last year’s worship aid. I haven’t quite finished my edits for this year, but it will almost be identical, save the gospel acclamation and the entrance hymn having music, rather than text blocks (but this applies to the morning Mass only).
7th in OT (A • 2023)
Hello Friends,
Here is our ordo for this weekend. Please be sure to listen to If Ye Love Me once or twice to really refresh & cement it in your mind. Also, at the very bottom, I’m posting a link to the psalm for Ash Wednesday, which, to my shame I forgot to give you at rehearsal. We will try and run through this briefly on Sunday to make sure we have it prepared.
Entrance Antiphon Hymn to the tune of St. Flavian
Entrance Antiphon: Fr. Weber #1091 (option ii)
Psalm 103: The Lord is kind and merciful.
Alleluia de Angelis
Offertory Hymn: Lamb of God, We Follow Thee to the tune of Gott Sei Dank / Lübeck
Communion Antiphon: Fr. Weber #1104 (option i)
Communion Motet: If Ye Love Me by Tallis
Communion Hymn: In Thy True Presence Here to the tune of Trentham
Ave Regina Cælorum
*followed by the recessional hymn during which an effigy of the Alelluia will be carried in procession and reposedRecessional Hymn: Alleluia, Song of Gladness to the tune Dulce Carmen.
Here’s my practice track for If Ye Love Me; this one has time-stamps for individual voice parts, which may be helpful for you; that said, this was before I reached my current proficiency level, so the melody is in the male octave, and I had to octave shift a few spots in the alto part (although it should still help you, Altos). I will also link a “normal” performance below my PT track.
(If you’re wondering where I ever got the idea…)
Looking Ahead:
Here’s the promised psalm for Ash Wednesday, followed by a few other Lenten things if you want to be working ahead. And on the bright side, the psalm for Ash Wednesday and Lent I are the same this year! Do peek at Exaltabo Te if you missed rehearsal, as this is for Ash Wednesday as well.
Here is a playlist that contains 4 of the antiphons for feet washing on Holy Thursday.
